WEEK OF JULY 31:

  • Tuesday 2 August – 10am – Walking Group – Allendale-Governors Bay. Meet at Car park, Allendale. A grade 1 walk. Walks are subject to change.

WEEK OF AUGUST 7:

  • Friday and Saturday – 5 and 6 August – Central South Island Methodist Synod meets at Pudding Hill Lodge.
  • Sunday August 7– 10.00am – Combined Service of Holy Communion with the Upper Riccarton congregation at Upper Riccarton Methodist Church. Preacher – Reverend Dr Barbara Peddie. Leader of Worship/Celebrant – Reverend Marcia Hardy. Morning Tea following the service.
  • Tuesday 9 August – 10am – Walking Group – details to be announced.
  • Wednesday 10 August – 2.00pm – Afternoon Theology Group meets at Jean Piper’s home.

PARISH PEOPLE NEWS:

  • Mary Caygill will be away from Saturday 30 July – Thursday 11August, attending the World Methodist Council Meeting and the World Methodist Conference in Durban, South Africa. Mary is the Co-Convenor of the Social and International Affairs Committee of the Methodist World Council and this will be her last meeting in this role.

  • Contributions are eagerly sought for the next edition (August) which is scheduled to be available on Sunday 21 August. Any items of news you want added to the newsletter please send through to Mary, either at the Parish Office, Upper Riccarton Methodist Church, or via email. Any items of people news, something interesting to ponder, or any of your future thinking about the future place of Durham St Methodist Church and a Methodist presence in the city as it emerges – every contribution is valuable.

BEYOND THE PARISH:

  • St Albans Uniting Parish – corner of Nancy Avenue and Knowles Street – Friday 5 August – 7.30pm – Christchurch Community Comment. Guest speaker, Jill Hawkey – “Disaster here and there.” There is no charge, but a koha will be accepted to cover expenses.
  • Celebrate New Zealand Hyms: A Canterbury celebration of worship songs and images of NZ – Friday and Saturday 26 and 27 August – at St Ninians Presbyterian Church.
