We warmly welcome the Reverend Barry Jones and Jennifer Jones this week as Barry preaches at our evening worship tonight. Barry is here in Christchurch for to offer support and care to parishes and presbyters affected by the recent earthquake. We are most grateful to Barry for taking this time and offering his gifts and wisdom to us here in the region.

The afternoon theology group will meet on May 11th at 2pm at the home of Jean Piper.
The DVD we will watch will be on Evil, suffering and a God of love. Everybody is welcome.

Sunday 15 th May 5.00pm. Service of Holy Communion followed by a shared meal. Please bring items of food to contribute to the shared meal. Following the service we will gather also for a CONGREGATIONAL MEETING — an opportunity for us to have time to talk together and give voice to our thoughts and feelings as to our current situation. PLEASE LET OTHERS NEAR TO YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS MEETING.

A special edition of the Durham St Newsletter is currently being prepared around the theme of the Rev W T Blight’s Durham St Church Anniversary History –A House not made with human hands. This newsletter will contain snippets of people’s special memories of Durham St Church, maybe of particular occasions, or personalities and leaders both lay and ordained, or special photographs. The compiling and production of this newsletter is taking place currently and the timeline for publication towards the end of May, 2011! So please if you have a contribution or know of someone who would like to contribute in some way please let Mary Caygill know either by phone – Upper Riccarton Church Office (ph. 348 9260), through the parsonage contact (ph. 374 9751), at home in Rangiora (ph. 03 313 9519), or by email – email.

As we settle ourselves into a new place and pattern of worship we need to re-establish our rosters for our weekly tasks to maintain our worship and congregational life. I have placed the rosters for the month of May and June on the table at the back of the church. We need volunteers for the following activities:

– Cup of tea/coffee/juice following the 5pm service
– Monthly shared meal on the 3rd Sunday of the month
– Communion Servers
– Readers for the scripture readings in weekly worship
– Prayers of Concern in weekly worship
– Stewards
– Greeters
– Sound System

Please send these to Mary Caygill either by email, or by telephone at home (pg. 03 313 9519) or Upper Riccarton Methodist Church Office (ph. 348 9260).

PARISH COUNCIL next meets Tuesday May 12th at Wallace and Beverley Woodley’s home.

Let us be especially mindful of the differing needs congregational members now have as they are situated in the various parts of the city, some still struggling with basic resources following the earthquake. There may be some very practical things we can do for each other, so we need to say alert and keep in touch with each other.
